KJIPUKTUK (Halifax) -- It’s hard to believe, in 2015, that participants in Halifax’ first Pride March anticipated being beaten. The only question was, would it be the spectators or the police doing the beating. It’s hard to convey how charged with potential violence the early movements toward rainbow rights and gender justice really were.

KJIPUKTUK (Halifax) - A day before perhaps compromising on the controversial proposed cut to the film tax credit, the government of Nova Scotia agreed to re-examine the inclusiveness of Bill 82, which proposes changes to two laws to ease the process of changing name and gender on provincially-issued identification.

We Still Have Genders Markers Because…Why?

New Nova Scotia legislation eases name change, gender designation. But why the fuss on what's between our legs?

KJIPUKTUK (Halifax) - Legislation introduced April 8th in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly nominally fulfills a campaign promise of the McNeil Liberals to enable trans and gender non-conforming Nova Scotians to more easily alter the official gender designation on personal documents issued by the provincial government, including birth certificates and driver’s licenses.
